SUSAN BARKER is the author of three novels. The Incarnations (2015) is about a taxi driver in contemporary Beijing, interwoven with stories from other historical eras. It was a New York Times Notable Book, a Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize winner, was shortlisted for the Kirkus Prize and was a Waterstones Book Club pick. While writing the novel, she spent several years living in China, researching contemporary Beijing and the various historical eras featured. Her next novel, Old Soul, is published in 2025.
She has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Manchester, and has been a recipient of two Royal Literary Fund Fellowships, Arts Council grants and a Society of Authors award. She now lives in Manchester, where she is a lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University..
